I abhor Shopping

After a loooooooooong time I went shopping yesterday. As if it wasn't bad enough before, during this time (my long sabbatical from shopping) clothes have managed to get even more crappier and costlier. What's with Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop, Westside, and all other such stores. Are these shops dumping grounds for badly made, psychedelic clothes? For the first time yesterday I was a little envious of men, dressing is still simple for them and they still get value for money. I see that giving up on clothes is not a choice available, humanity is stuck with its invention. The best option is to keep wearing the same clothes (unless you put on weight, in which case you borrow clothes from your elder sister, who is on her own weight gain trip. If the elder sister has nobody to borrow from, well her fault, you didn't ask her to be the first born). Men too can follow the above example, although life is easy for them (it always is).
Some advantages to give up buying new clothes:
-You save money.
-Looking at your old clothes nobody will expect tips from you.
-Men and women will not get attracted to each other (I think I am on to something here)
-Friends (including Kathy in my case) will start gifting you clothes more often
-I will never go into depression again.

Am I glad to read this post or what ! :) At last I have found SOME GIRL who abhors shopping ! I am the black sheep among friends...the only girl who hates shopping...and how much I have to hear about it from them ! I don't shop till it is absolutely imperative...and I keep finding excuses to push "absolutely imperative" further and further away. :)))

I agree.. unless of course you are shopping for gadgets, now thats a diff high altogether..
I dont care much for clothes, in fact the last gadget shop i went its calld times square and its a geek heaven, they looked at me and i coudl see th eman thinking, no sale commission here, she looks as if i will have to buy her lunch -- but i ended up having my revenge Julia Roberts style -- BIG MISTAKE mate.. !!

but i agree about clothes, they have become shorter and lesser in cloth and more in mullah -- why so?

What you need is a swift kicky in the Bum. You oughta see things around here.(Mens shirt = 230 quid; Womens top = 20 quid and then its on sale) I'm pretty sure the same scene repeats back home too.
PS: Faded denim and sweats always look nicer on women ;)
PPS: Whatever happened to Gap, benetton or that khadi joint that you used to often shop from?

Cheers
M

Superheroes...um... super heroines don't shop!
They let their sidekicks do it for them. BEsides all you need to do is wear your undies on the outside and you've made a fashion statement no one would date copy... he he he.

Zoya - Looks like we are soulmates!

SWB - so finally men and women are equal. Hail Mogambo!

dreams - Pretty Woman well done! Here women still where layers of clothes (all season: dhoop, chav or barsaat) no short clothes for em, unless you are the filmy/TV types or just basically rich and travel in cars. But absolute sore to the eyes and exorbitant prices seem to be a world phenomenon. In fact I just finished reading a research report that claims that if you stare at these clothes continuously for 1 hour, there is 99.9% higher probability of getting cataract had you not stared at these clothes.

Yum - In the year 1998 I bought a Benetton Tshirt for Rs. 399/- You have no clue what that amount meant to me back then or maybe you know. After the 1st wash the colour runs and I have a faded T-shirt with United Colours of Benetton written on it. All the unity could not bind the colour to the cloth. Since then I haven't even looked at a Benetton shop. Let me update u on Fab India too. These days they make clothes only out of Chaddars (bedsheets) and the material the cotton mattress walas use. And if they happen to put 25 paise worth of thread work on it, which they call embroidery then the Kurtas cost nothing less than Rs. 1500/- and above. Besides Men's shirt lasts for years, so what are you complaining about?

WW - The sidekick is down with Malaria. Undies -- which I would like to call chaddis -- on the outside are evening wear when I am flying to combat crime. The shopping was for day wear when I sleep in the office. Hope that clarifies all doubts.

Oh my god !! you have spoken about the one thing that gets me soo angry whenever i go to shop in Lifestyle kinda stores.I dont know why they keep making such clothes and who buys them? Maybe people buy them because they have no other options and hence the brands think people like them. There in lies the vicious cycle of bad clothes and horrible designs.I like the friends gifting clothes part ..but not from the same shops mentioned ...i wanna a frnd who gifts me Versace or Dolce and gabana..the only friend who would do that is myself.Thats thought doesnt help :P
